Abstract Shannon Mattern is a professor of anthropology at the New School. She has written on archives, libraries, media and tools, media infrastructures, and spatial epistemologies. Our call for this issue of JAE was inspired especially by her essay on “Maintenance and Care,” published online in Places Journal in November 2018. Jay Cephas and Ana Miljački sat down to talk to Professor Mattern on November 8, 2021 over Zoom about a series of topics that are collected in her most recent book, A City Is Not a Computer: Other Urban Intelligences, published in the fall of 2021 with Places Books. © 2022 Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.
