Abstract Here, in this chapter, urban design recommendations will be made for a region and city which are prone to seismic risk. Following chapters will deal with urban design solutions for the city center, Bazaar area, access network and open spaces in a city. The city of Rasht will be used as example. Information needed for the regional and city scale study and design in a seismic-prone region includes seismic and geological map and data, hazard assessment, risk assessment, vulnerability assessment, built environment data, earthquake scenarios, urban and regional policies, and an implementation guidelines and mechanisms. In order to integrate seismic risk reduction goals into the long-range development plans, long-term development scenarios are formulated for the city of Rasht and vicinities. Most possible alternatives are centers hierarchy model, radial corridor model, bi-polar metro model and metro-satellite model. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
