Abstract | This article presents a series of soundscapes carried out under the direction of György Kepes at the Center for Advanced Visual Studies (CAVS) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the early 1970s. All of them were oriented towards the regeneration of urban and landscape spaces which were being seriously affected by environmental degradation produced by uncontrolled urban growth based on subtle interventions that arose from experimentation with sound and that promoted collaborative work between artists from different disciplines. Its study must be of interest, in our days, for the quality of the works presented and also, to help reconsider new ways of improving the urban and landscape environment that surrounds us and to project more dynamic spaces that are sensitive to the environment and the needs of some citizens increasingly committed to the sustainable development of cities. Thus, they could serve as a reference in projects aimed at the conservation of the natural landscape that can still be found in some peri-urban areas of cities, seeking to preserve their environmental values through the creation of soundscapes or to regenerate urban areas that are degraded by the environmental impact improving environmental and noise pollution problems. © 2022 Universidad de Caldas.
